Essentially undisturbed by humans since 1903, Kyle Woods is a significant remnant of the original forests of Mahoning County. The woodland was a gift to the Ohio Division of Natural Areas and Preserves in 1977 from Josephine Kyle in memory of her father, Judge Arthur Kyle.
Although primarily a beech-sugar maple community, Kyle Woods has a striking diversity of woody species and is more complex than most similar woodlots in northeastern Ohio. Tree species include cucumber magnolia, wild black cherry, black gum and several species of oaks and ashes. The preserve also features several white oaks more than 300 years old.
