About Clean Ohio Trail Fund

The Clean Ohio Trail Fund (COTF) seeks to improve outdoor recreational opportunities for Ohioans by funding trails for outdoor pursuits of all kinds.

Who can apply?

• Local governments, park and joint recreation districts, conservancy districts, soil and water conservation districts, and non-profit organizations are eligible

What projects qualify?

• Land acquisition for a trail
• New trails or connector-trail development
• Construction grants also might cover the cost of engineering and design

Important things to know

• State of Ohio will reimburse up to 75 percent of eligible costs under Clean Ohio Trail Fund with a grantee match of 25 percent
• All projects must be completed within 15 months from the date they are signed into contract

Before you apply

Do one or both of the following situations apply to your organization? If so, please contact the program administrator before you submit a new application.

• You previously received a COTF grant and were unable to complete the project or were substantially late on completion
• You have other funding sources that would prevent the project’s completion within COTF’s specified 15-month window

UPDATE

Increasing the number of trails and trail access in underserved communities is a priority for the State of Ohio. An interactive map using U.S. Census data was created to define high-need/high-demand areas across the state.
