Hunter Education Instructor Training

Become a Hunter Education Instructor

Workshops for individuals interested in becoming a volunteer hunter/trapper education instructor in Ohio are offered at five locations across the state each year. Individuals must complete a volunteer instructor training workshop to become a certified instructor. Participants must be at least 18 years of age and have successfully completed a hunter education course. Call 1-800-WILDLIFE (945-3543) for additional information.

Instructor Academy Requirements

Complete Ohio’s online hunter education course and email a copy of the certificate to matt.ortman@dnr.ohio.gov with a request to attend the hunter education instructor academy. The interested candidate will be emailed the link to complete the Ohio background check for hunter and trapper education instructors.

When these two items are completed, the interested candidate will receive confirmation from the ODNR Division of Wildlife. They may then register for the Instructor Training Academy that is convenient for them.
