Wildland Firefighter Training

Basic Wildland Firefighter training classes (S-130/S-190/L-180) and Annual Wildfire Refresher (RT-130) sessions are held at the Ohio Fire Academy in Reynoldsburg, OH. Registration for most course offerings occurs through the Ohio Fire Academy online registration portal.

Available Training

S-130/S-190/L-180 Basic Wildland Firefighter Training Course

This course offers the opportunity to accomplish all requirements necessary for a nationally certified wildland firefighter (FFT2). Course dates for the Fall offering are Monday through Friday, and course dates for the Spring offering are weekends. Attendance on all dates of the selected course offering is required; this is a 40-hour course. Prerequisites for S-130/190/L-180 include FEMA courses IS-100 and IS-700 (independent study courses available on FEMA website).

Interagency Wildfire Refresher RT-130 Course

This 1-day annual wildland firefighting recertification is the equivalent to the National Wildfire Coordinating Group RT-130 course, and is a requirement for firefighters who intend to participate in western wildland fire support. Students will have the opportunity to complete the work capacity test (pack test). Participants in this course must have already completed S-130/190/L-180.

  • Five separate course offerings are available in 2023 (register only for preferred date): February 23, March 7, March 21, April 4, or May 2.
