The story of the Ohio landscape is told in the rocks we see around us. Some of them feature fascinating fossils, and others hold beautiful minerals. These rocks can be found throughout the state and represent many different environments that existed throughout Ohio's geologic history, dating back almost 500 million years.

The geology of Ohio provides a variety of sedimentary rocks that are used to make many of the products we use every day. Rocks such as limestone, dolomite, sandstone, and coal are mined or quarried throughout the state.
