Beach Swimming

Ohio's state park beaches are open year-round and are always free. Swimming is welcomed in designated areas at inland lakes and along the Lake Erie shoreline. 

Most beach areas offer picnic areas and shaded spots to take a break from the sun. Restrooms, changing areas, and concessions are a few of the added features at local park beaches. There are also a few important rules to remember to keep your day safe and fun:

• Pets are strictly prohibited from the designated swimming areas. 
• Do not swim past the boundaries (marked by buoys) of the designated swimming area in the water
• All beaches are swimming at your own risk so please keep an eye on children and inexperienced swimmers at all times
• Dispose of all waste in trash receptacles (if there are no trash cans, please carry out what you carried in)

Swim Safe

Swimming is a staple of summer fun and includes getting everything for a fun day at the beach ready ahead of time - sun lotion, snacks, etc. And once at the beach, Ohio State Parks reminds parents, guardians, and all adults to keep an eye on children when they are in the water. It only takes a moment for a fun family outing to turn into a tragedy. Safety is critical when swimming at Ohio State Parks.

Swimming in the darker waters of lakes is different from swimming in your local pool. 

Pools and Splash pads

• Grand Lake St. Marys offers a splash pad and a separate swimming beach for registered campers.
• Mohican State Park Campground offers a splash pad and swimming pool for registered campers.
• Hocking Hills and Indian Lake have swimming pools for registered campers.
