Ohio Division of Wildlife

The Ohio Division of Wildlife makes efforts to provide enhanced access for persons with mobility impairments to interior areas of state wildlife areas while limiting disturbance to other hunters and minimizing negative impacts to wildlife habitat. All Purpose Vehicle (APV) Use Permit holders are exempt from the prohibition of discharging a firearm from in or on their vehicle while using the designated access roads on Division of Wildlife properties. In addition to a car or truck, the permit will allow use of All Purpose Vehicles (APVs) on these designated access roads for permit holders.

There is one wetland, one forestland, and one grassland hunting area in each of the Division of Wildlife’s five geographic districts of the state for a total of 15 designated APV access areas statewide. Ideally, this will provide hunters with mobility impairments the full range of hunting opportunities evenly distributed across the state. In addition to the 15 public hunting areas, qualified APV permit holders can hunt from their APV on private property.

Ohio Division of Forestry

The Ohio Division of Forestry provides four state forest APV recreational areas. Maumee, Richland Furnace, Pike, and Perry state forests all have trails that are accessible to ATVs, side by sides, dirt bikes and dual sport motorcycles that are 62” or less in width and have a State Recreational Vehicle Registration with the BMV. Operators of APVs in these state forest areas shall not carry or transport any firearms or other weapons that are not unloaded and securely encased.
