Range Features
Rifle & Pistol
- 10, 15, 25, 50, 75, and 100-yard rifle and pistol range.
- 10/15/25 yard range has 11 total shooting stations (5 of which are standing stations)
- Additional 25-yard range has 8 sitting stations
- 25/50 yard range has 16 stations
- 100-yard range has 30 stations. Half have the option to shoot 25, 50, or 75 yards, depending on target placement.
Shotgun
- A shotgun range that can accommodate 20-30 shooters.
- Clay target throwers are provided, but shooters must bring their own clay targets.
Archery
- A static archery range with targets from 10 to 50 yards.
- A wooded archery trail course with 18 targets and 3 towers.
Hours of Operation
- The pistol, rifle, and shotgun ranges are open year-round, Wed.- Sun. 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Shooting ceases at 4:40 pm.
- Archery ranges are open dawn until dusk.
- Closed: New Year’s Day, Easter, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.

Annual Shooting Range Permit
- Allows the holder to be admitted to Division of Wildlife Class A, B, and C shooting ranges for one year
- Cost: $24.00

1-Day Shooting Range Permit
- Allows the holder to be admitted to Division of Wildlife Class A, B, and C shooting ranges for one day

Shooting Range Permit year begins March 1 and ends the last day of February. All costs include a $1.00 writing fee. All sales are final. No refunds are given.
- Rifle, pistol, and shotgun range: All persons age 18 and older shooting must purchase either an annual shooting range permit ($24), an annual permit and hunting license combo ($29.12), or a one-day shooting range permit ($5), which are available at all hunting and fishing license outlets, online, or the HuntFish OH mobile app. Permits are not sold at the shooting range.
- Archery ranges are open free of charge. No permit is required to use these ranges, and no range attendant or restroom facilities are provided.
- Shooters age 17 and under are not required to purchase a permit, but must be accompanied by and directly monitored by an adult (age 18 years or older) holding a valid shooting range permit.
Target Range Rules
Spring Valley Shooting Range Rules [pdf]
No sign-in after 4:30 p.m. - LAST SHOT at 4:40 p.m. All shooters must leave by 5:00 P.M.
BEFORE entering the range: you must read and be familiar with all range rules.
- All shooters age 18 and older must produce a valid range use permit. Shooters age 17 and under are not required to have a permit but must be accompanied by and directly supervised by an adult (18 years or older) who holds a valid range use permit.
- All shooters 18 years and older must sign in with the range attendant prior to entering the range. All shooters must sign out when exiting the range.
- Parking lots, buildings, and all shooting lines are under camera surveillance.
- All targets must be placed on the designated target holders and must fit inside the cardboard.
- When going to and from targets, use the designated pathways only.
- All trash and casings must be removed from the range before you leave.
The following IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED and will not be tolerated:
- RAPID FIRE. Leave 1-3 seconds between shots
- Handling of firearms during a cease fire!
- Shooting from any position other than the designed firing line or in any direction other than down range. No shooting from the hip or draw firing.
- Shooting at BAFFLES, COLUMNS, Target Frames, or any object other than an approved target.
- The use of TRACER AMMO or EXPLODING TARGETS.
- Shooting FULLY AUTOMATIC FIREARMS.
- Shooting of ILLEGAL FIREARMS as defined by O.R.C. Section 2923.
- USING Shot larger than 6 shot on the shotgun range.
- Pistols on 50 or 100 yard range without the range supervisors permission.
- Alcohol
- Smoking or any tobacco products – Designated Smoking area is in the parking lot (on the asphalt)
CEASE-FIRE: The command used on the range to stop all shooting/firing – To go down range and change targets, or if there is a safety concern. Anyone can call a cease-fire at any time if an unsafe action has taken place.
During a cease-fire, firearms are to be unloaded, actions open and visible, muzzle pointed down range and left on the shooting benches - ALL patrons are to move behind the cease-fire line.
- Once everyone is behind the cease-fire line and have acknowledged the cease-fire, shooters may use the target path to access their targets.
- All shooters must return to behind the cease-fire line until all shooters have returned from down range and have acknowledged a “ready on the line call”
- Firearms are NOT to be handled during a cease-fire.
- Shooters/visitors must stay behind the cease-fire line at ALL times during a cease fire.
By receiving this document and signing into the range, you are verifying that you have read and understand all the range rules. Failure to follow rules and/or demonstrating unsafe behavior may result in shooters being ejected from the range, forfeiture of permit, and/or subject to arrest.

Class A, B, and C
Rifle, Pistol, and Shotgun Ranges
- All persons age 18 and older shooting on ODNR Division of Wildlife Class A, B, and C ranges must purchase a Shooting Range Permit which is available at all hunting & fishing license outlets. Permits are not sold at the shooting ranges. These permits partially offset the cost of operations, maintenance, trash removal, and improvements.
- Shooters age 17 and under are not required to purchase a permit, but must be accompanied by and directly monitored by an adult (age 18 years or older) holding a valid Shooting Range Permit.
- Legal targets on all shooting ranges are single sheet paper targets, or stationary reactive or self-healing polymer targets only. Shooters must supply their own target holders, which must meet the approval of the shooting range attendant. Grand River and Spring Valley supply target holders. The shooting of fully automatic firearms and rapid-fire of semi-automatic firearms are strictly prohibited.

Archery Ranges
These ranges are open free of charge. No permit is required to use these ranges, and no range attendant or restroom facilities are provided.
