Tummonds State Nature Preserve was Ohio’s first scenic river preserve, designated in 1986. It protects 1.5 miles of river corridor along the Upper Cuyahoga State Scenic River. It is dedicated in memory of Charles A. Tummonds, a long-time friend of the division and advocate of preservation of the Cuyahoga River and conservation in northeastern Ohio.
In addition to the wooded riverine corridor, which contains impressive beech trees, the north part of the preserve contains a small sphagnum bog, dry kame woods, swamp woods, and marsh.
No visitor facilities are present. Accessible by the Village of Mantua Glacial Esker Trail or by canoe from the Upper Cuyahoga River.
