FINDLAY, Ohio – Anglers and boaters looking to launch at the Dempsey Fishing Access to access Lake Erie in Ottawa County should be aware that the boat ramps are temporarily closed beginning Monday, Aug. 17, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife.
The boat basin at Dempsey Fishing Access is scheduled to be dredged beginning Monday, Aug. 17. The project is scheduled to be completed by mid-November. During the project, the boat ramps will be closed Monday through Friday to all vehicle and boat traffic. The ramps will reopen for use each Saturday and Sunday.
Built up sediment will be removed to ensure that boating access will not be disrupted as Lake Erie returns to normal or lower water levels. Barges with cranes will be digging in the boat basin to remove approximately 14,500 cubic yards of silt.
Dempsey Fishing Access is located in Lakeside Marblehead, along Lake Erie’s southern shore. Boaters looking for a public access ramp are encouraged to visit Mazurik Boat Access located at 8957 East Northshore Blvd, Lakeside Marblehead 43440.
The mission of the Division of Wildlife is to conserve and improve fish and wildlife resources and their habitats for sustainable use and appreciation by all.
